Pascal Lamy is one of the most hardened veterans of EU policymaking.

The 69-year-old Frenchman has seen it all. He worked as chef de cabinet under Jacques Delors, the former president of the European Commission, between 1984 to 1994, then as European commissioner for trade from 1999 to 2004 and finally as head of the World Trade Organization in Geneva for two terms, from 2005 to 2013. He now heads the Delors Institute in Paris, where he watches a changing EU and EU trade policy as an observer.
